Here I am! I finally dug myself out from the layers of dust and made my way to my happy place (blogging on my 4′ iMac).
This past week has just been cray cray. Every morning I wake up early with the intent to blog, but get side tracked when our builder gets here. We have to pick out balusters, stain color (Jacobean!) for the floors, hardware for the windows, placement of wall sconces, on and on and on and on…
A quick recap of this week:
1. Our old clawfoot tub was refinished and it looks tiiiight! I can’t wait to take a relaxing soak in it when all this chaos is over.
2. I ordered a fabulous distressed leather chair for our family room from OKL (see below).
3. Our bathroom vanity arrived and looks even more rustic and beautiful than I was expecting.
4. I got carded when we were out for beers at the local watering hole. I know what you’re thinking, probably some suave male server who knows that carding a broad will make her like him and tip more. NOT the case. I was carded by a very non-lesbianish chick, thank you very much.
5. Fern and Rosy got their summer ‘dos. They look adorable and skinny and ready to head up north to swim in my parents’ lake all weekend!
Things really are starting to come together here, though. I’ve been holding off on decorating plans until the walls/trim/windows/doors are all finished and we can get a better feel for the space. But we do know that we wanna use lots of warm textures (flannel, leather, wood) and lots of neutrals. Here’s a sampling of the look we’re going for in our family room (including the said chair I purchased earlier this week).
Now if you don’t mind, we’re gonna hit the road for a weekend-o-fun at my parents’ in Sconie. Have a great long weekend, yo!
1) metallic middle pillow 2) square layers pillow 3) john dioxin side table 4) black/white lumberjack plaid flannel 5) marilyn club chair 6) quatrefoil window panels (will someone please buy these for me!?)
I’m NOT in a good mood right now. I woke up to a text from our builder with a price quote on the counter tops I picked out on Friday and have since fallen madly deeply inseparably in love with.
Sounds like the slabs of quartz I picked out think rather highly of themselves and would rather hang out in a big warehouse next to ugly, gaudy blue granite and shit instead of coming to live at the Fahden’s bomb ass house. Well FINE. Have it your way, you pretty pieces of counter. I’ll just have to start the search over.
Or, um, convince Jack to sell his car.

Last night we saw The Black Keys. They were amazeballs.
Relatedly, I wanna paint the ceiling in our fireplace/TV room black.
Mama had too much vodka last night so this is all you’re getting from me today.

This morning I woke up to Jack singing Rosy that song from Pulp Fiction, “don’t you know girl… you’ll be a woman soooooon.” Yes, it’s true, Rosy is weaning her way off puppy food and starting to eat Fernie’s adult food. And like I told both of them the other day, if you’re old enough to be eating adult dog food, then you’re old enough to get off your furry fanny and get a summer job. Rosy has applied to Adele’s Frozen Custard in Excelsior and we’re hoping Fern gets a call back from the Wayzata Marina so she can hook us up with a cheap boat slip.
Yes, once those doodles start earning their keep around this joint, we will be able to start buying goodies for our new entry! The sheet rock went up last week and now the feller is here to mud and get that bad boy all smoothed out. We’re getting closer (3 more weeks) to this place being D-O-N-E and I can’t wait!
P.S. Thanks to Jack for the grandaddy of all puns he came up with for this blog post title.
1) kissy kissy photo (sold, but she’s got lots of other great ones) 2) copper gold leaf iron table lamp 3) morning dew vase 4) voluspa noir candle 5) moorish chest 6) crewelwork wool rug 7) vintage antler trophy
It’s Friday, Friday / Gotta get down on Friday / Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend / Friday, Friday… you know that song? Rosy has been singing it all morning and now I can’t get it out of my head.
It’s FRIDAY, MO FOS! This has been one helluva week. Work has been cray cray, the disaster zone here at the homestead gets more intense by the day and I can’t find my damn razor.
To celebrate this fine springy Friday, let’s look at some pretty places that I wouldn’t mind throwing back a few Miller Lites in.

I like how the retro pink sofa and the vintage metal table are old yet the place feels fresh and modern cuz of the nice gallery wall above.
No brainer here. TRIBAL BED? Yes please. The lampshade looks like the toilet paper balls Rosy digs outta the trash and leaves randomly around the house.
I know. This one is kinda weird. Could be granny’s apartment or could be the awesome home of like … I dunno, someone cool. I love the plaid and horsey art and that spec of wood flooring down on the lower right.
Have I posted this photo before? I can’t remember. It’s like the pretty birthday card someone sent you two years ago that still hangs on the fridge… this photo is always just a few clicks away from me. I LOVE that over-the-top girly wallpaper.

Fur and a vintage rug and dark walls? Sounds like a winner! (other fun phrases our contractor uses: “You got it” and “give ‘er hell.”
Have a fun weekend, pretties! I’ll be over here, decompressing in the woods.
Who wants to join me on our huge distressed imaginary sectional from Restoration Hardware (in Old Saddle Chestnut), draw our imaginary John Robshaw custom window panels and watch The Goonies? BYO Root Beer.

You know how when you’re sick but are trying to look like you’re not so you load on the bronzer and blush? Then you get into the bathroom at work and you’re like butt white? What’s up with that?
Friends, I DON’T FEEL GOOD. I am such a baby when I’m sick and since Jack is in San Diego for work and Fern and Rosy are tired of listening to me bitch, I thought I’d whine to you guys. I have a piercing headache – it feels like someone shoved a bunch of crushed aluminum cans into my ears. One nostril is totally clogged, the other is totally raw and my throat feels like it’s coated in steel wool. UGH, I want to drop kick whoever invented this virus.
In other news, here are some goodies that match my complexion today, only much much prettier. Like any other mature 33 year old woman, I sometimes like to pound a good bag of Cheetos, so you won’t find many white things in our house. But I do love the idear of decking a room out completely in white. How fresh and serene and peaceful, hey?

BOOM shaka laka. I am HOME, biatches!
So I landed Saturday afternoon and took a cab home (dear God, don’t even get me started on how much I ADORED the driver). The further west we headed on 394/12, the greener and lusher (c’m on, spellcheck, ‘lusher’ is a word) it got. I can’t believe how in just one week, our lot is SO much more grown in than when I left. You look out the window and it’s just green green GREEN everywhere! I feel like I’m at my parents’ cabin and am loving it.
Probably one of our last priorities right now is our big beautiful (empty) three season porch. It was added right before we bought the home and has really high vaulted ceilings and three walls of pure windows. Eventually we wanna have a game table out there, a little sitting area with a TV and a vintage foosball table (Jack’s parents have an awesome bonzini table we’ve been eyeing up). I can’t wait for the day when we can lounge around in that great big room with friends, sucking down vodka sodas, surrounded by a gazillion trees and enjoying cross breezes up the wazoo.
Check out these beautiful porchy-outdoor-type spaces I found on Lonny… Oh golly, I am so excited about this post that I forgot to mention how I’m sicker than a dog right now with a brutal cold and want to cut my head off and kick it into the lake so you should all feel really bad for me. So, uh, Happy Monday!

Yep, it’s happened. I’ve had my fill of the hustle and bustle and am ready to get back to the sweet, simple life with Jack and the pups. From the sounds of it, things have been moving along with our remodel and I’m pumped to see the progress. F-ing Face Time hasn’t been working for Jack and I, so I haven’t seen anything since I left!
Blue is the bomb. It’s my go-to color for all things interior design. It’s quiet and calm and moody and awesome. Here are some blue spaces that make-ah me happy and inspired.
Have a good weekend, I’ll be flying from the Big Apple to the Minnie one manana.

It stormed all through last night. It was awesome… thunder and pouring rain and flashes of lightening (in case you didn’t know what I meant by “storm”, there’s the definition for you). I looove thunderstorms. Especially when I’m laying in a pile of 17,000 thread count bedding with a belly stuffed full of black cod, chow fun and spring rolls.
This post is going out to all the NYC taxi drivers (because I just KNOW they are reading this right now). Being from Minnesota, I’m used to a good percentage of taxi drivers wanting to chat the whole ride. Here, you’re lucky if you get a sneer when you tell them where you’re headed. You don’t even get a “thanks lady” after giving a 30% tip. Why so glum, chum? I was thinking that maybe every NYC taxi should have a goldendoodle in it that rides shot gun. The doodle could wear a cute little yellow jacket and give the driver a lick every now and then. Maybe that would cheer those fellers up.
In other news, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish my Dad a HAPPY BIRTHDAY on national Color Me Carla! Once when my parents were visiting me in Minneapolis and I was driving us home from dinner, my dad exclaimed that I was “driving like a New York City cab driver!”… gosh, this post really came full circle without me even trying!
