welcome to my dream home

Today is Day 1 of my staycation. After my big photoshoot last month in LA, I decided I needed a stretch of days to catch up on things (Project Runway, cuddling with Fern, shopping, US Weekly, sleep).

I thought I’d start the day by giving you a tour of my dream home.

WELCOME!

This is our front entry. Usually Fern would be sitting on the pretty rug ready to greet you, but she’s splashing around in the pond out back with her little sister Rosy.

Yes, Fern and Rosy have their own bathroom. I may or may not slip on my swimsuit and join them for bath time every now and then.

black + white + pretty alright

As I ogle beautiful interiors on a daily basis, I’m coming to learn that there are two things I am afraid of when it comes to decorating. First, I’m a nervous nelly about using too many colors or patterns together in one room. While I LOVE this look, I’m too chicken to invest in this approach out of fear it will just result in a hot mess. Secondly, I don’t have enough restraint or confidence to use only neutrals, specifically black. I can honestly say that the only black pieces in our entire house are art frames and our new guest bathroom wallpaper (which FINALLY goes up next week!).

Today I came across a bunch of black and white rooms that are making me rethink my obsession with grey and blue. I love the drama and stark contrast that all of these rooms share. They feel chic and polished and, with the exception of the second photo, not overwhelmingly mod (I’m scared of mod too). I’ve been toying with painting the ceiling in our master bath a dark color… maybe I’ll grow a pair and try black.

the bright stuff

Holla! I’ve been a terrible blogger lately, but as the weather gets cooler and the summer weekend getaways come to an end, I will have more time to post. Jack and I decided to sit this Labor Day out and stay put for once. We’ve been traveling all summer to weddings, cabins, etc and needed a weekend at home. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying relaxing, playing with Fernie and finally catching up on the crap-ton of shows we have saved on our DVR.

One of my favorite shows for inspiration and decorating ideas is Home by Novogratz on HGTV (don’t worry, it’s not the typical do-it-yourself-on-the-cheap type show). This show follows a married Manhattan couple around as they decorate posh interiors with bright, bold and graphic elements. I always wuss out when it comes to bright color, and envy the way they pull off loud pieces in a sophisticated and chic way.

I decided to channel my inner Novagratz and put together a little mood board with loud and colorful items. Pretty much every piece shown is out of my price range, although I did purchase the snuggly striped throw today! Now if you don’t mind, there’s an icy glass of vodka calling mi nombre…
