pillow fight

Lately I’ve had my eye out for a few throw pillows to add to our guest room. And boy did I just hit the jackpot. I found a shop on Etsy called Ikat & Batik which has oodles and oodles of beautiful handmade pillows. The best part is that you can buy sets of nine totally unique pillows that all match. So if you’re throw-pillow-challenged and have trouble mixing and matching, here is the perfect solution! Buy a set and scatter them throughout multiple rooms and voila, you have a cohesive look that doesn’t feel too matchy-matchy.

Here are the three sets that are all vying for my attention…

ASDA672QJJASDN7a7s8a87782eu1y2eguqywgdacjahshdbajsd!!! No, that’s not a typo. It’s me slamming my head on the keyboard in a jealous rage. Would you just LOOK at this chick’s house?! This is my dream home. It’s rustic, fresh, clean and mostly neutral but with the perfect amount of color. I am so so so stinking jealous.

One challenge I have in our home is that I have to stay away from too may wood pieces because of all the wood floors. Somehow Emma has managed to mix a lot of wood furniture with her wood floors and it doesn’t look like a big, brown, hot mess. Beyond the wood elements in her home, I love all of the other natural textures and objects. I adore the branches mounted to the wall, the cute yellow buds, the woven baskets and the earthy rugs.

I am being completely serious when I say this: I want to marry this space.

tangled up in blue

I love rain. Since this weekend I devoted all of my time to cleaning out the entire house (aren’t I fun?), the rainy and cloudy weather was timed perfectly. I haven’t had to feel guilty for not planting flowers, painting our new shutters or frolicking in the field with Fern. Instead, I got to stay in my sweats and purge oodles of nappy old sweaters, a fair amount of broken dog toys and one or two of the FIVE sports helmets in our basement (but I’m keeping my three copies of Fletch on VHS).

I decided to take a quick break and round up a few items that match the mood of this rainy, sleepy weekend we’ve had. And now that my little internetting break is over, I need to get back to my clean-fest so I’m free to frolic the rest of the summer.

for the love of COLOR!

Ooo la la! I have been seeing lots of bright pops of color lately both in fashion and interiors. And guess what? I LIKE IT!

It always amazes me at how just a few simple pieces in a bold punch of color can really add drama and spunk to a room. For the most part, the fundamental pieces in the spaces pictured below (tables, seating, walls) are all very neutral and light. It’s the accessories that add fun and whimsey to each room. And that’s what makes them purrrrfecto in my book.

Enjoy these summery spaces!

overstoked

Whewie! I’ve been devoting every spare second I have to getting our yard in presentable shape for summer, so I’m behind on blogging… sorry, my pretties.

Today I ordered new chairs for our dining room and I can not wait ’til they arrive! I had been searching and searching for MONTHS and ended up finding the winning chairs (pictured below) on a very unexpected site. If you think Overstock is just full of gaudy gold jewelry and plus-size pantyhose, think again, bitches!

Overstock has a surprisingly large amount of good finds at very reasonable prices. The only downside is that things tend to sell out kinda fast. I was planning on ordering a console table for our guest room but was too late. Here are some other items on my wish list that I hope I don’t miss out on…

perfectly plain

I’m on a white couch kick. We do not need a new couch (much less a white one), but I want one, damn it! The great thing about a white sofa or chair is that I would never get sick of it (which can happen easily). I could switch it up with different pillows or throws and it would match anything and everything.

The spaces below all incorporate white furniture and look so relaxed, clean and chic. I would love to plop down in one of these rooms on a sunny, breezy day and read a good magazine. The only drawback would be that I couldn’t munch on Oreos and have Fern cuddle up next to me with her dirty paws.

bottoms up

One of my favorite things to do in the whole wide world is go out for a boozey dinner with my main squeeze. I love love love having fancy cocktails, tasty appetizers and a big delicious din din. We usually only do it up at the fancy-type joints a couple times a month since we tend to rack up quite the tab.

When we’re not out on the town, we do a fair share of cooking at home… but we hardly ever booze. Well maybe it’s time to change that! We definitely have the space to add a little bar area either in our dining room or basement. I would love to have an endless stash of vodka and a fun mix of cute cocktail glasses on display. Then we would just need to get Miss Fern an apron and she could be our barmaid.

my mum!

Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful MOM!

I am thankful to have been raised by such a fun and creative mom. I remember all of the artsy fartsy things we did together when I was growing up and am thankful to have inherited her creativity. I wish I lived closer to my parents so I could spend more time with them, but it makes the time we do spend together all the more special. I had a great weekend at their cabin drinking, playing games and eating tasty food and can’t wait to get together again soon.

I snuck into my mom’s photo box and scanned some of my favorite vintage pics. Look at what great style she has!

all horned animals go to heaven

Yes, you could say that using antlers for home decor is very “on trend.” But I think it’s a very classic and timeless look. Not to mention preppy and rustic and just pretty much all around amazing. I LOVE ANTLERS. I am up at my parents’ cabin for the weekend and we just got back from the neatest shop full of antiques and random finds. The owner had lots of antlers mounted to the wall to but unfortunately they were used to sell jewelry and I couldn’t buy them.

We already have a cute rack I bought off Etsy mounted above our flat screen, but I am searching for more to incorporate into other rooms. When you think about it, I suppose it’s a little weird that I paid a random person via Paypal and they shipped me the appendages of a dead animal. But whatever, they look awesome. And I’m not the only one that likes hanging antlers. Below are some examples of horns in homes.

I’m off to a Friday night fish fry, peace out!

are you my mother?

Mother’s Day is approaching and these cute little guys are in need of a mum! I am all stocked up on small trinkets, so I’m trying to cut myself off. A great way to add character to a space is by stashing unique little odds and ends in unexpected places. Etsy is the perfect source for this kind of stuff. I’m very tempted to swap out our plain glass kitchen canisters with the more earthy ones below… ahhh! NO! I don’t need them. Someone please adopt these little buggers before I can!
